Can you use Revolut Business for large transfers?

Revolut does offer the facility to make large transfers either online or via the Revolut app. But for businesses, the most you can send per single payment in GBP in the UK is £250,000.¹

For international transfers, limits vary depending on the currency. Revolut Business accounts also have fair usage limits on how much currency you can convert.² This will apply when you send money internationally, as your GBP needs to be converted to the receiver’s home currency.

If you send or convert currency above this monthly fair usage limit, fees will apply.² We’ll look at these in more detail later.

It’s also possible that large transfers may take slightly longer to be processed, as extra security and anti-fraud checks may need to be carried out.

And of course, you’ll also need to be a Revolut business account customer before you can send money.

Is Revolut safe for large payments?

Revolut isn’t a licensed UK bank, although it has recently received a UK banking licence and is currently in a ‘mobilisation’ period while it sets up its banking services.

In the meantime, it remains authorised by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as an electronic money services provider.³

As such, it is required to use security measures to keep your money and transfers safe. This includes sophisticated fraud prevention systems, which flag up potentially fraudulent transactions.

So, you can feel confident that using Revolut for larger transfers is a sensible and safe choice.

However, it’s always wise to take sensible precautionary steps when sending a large sum. These include:

  • Double-checking the recipient’s bank details.
  • Avoiding sending money to people or companies you don’t know - or haven’t verified for authenticity.
  • Never feeling pressured into sending a payment - as it could be a scam.
  • Avoiding sharing your online or mobile banking details with anyone.

How to make a large payment with Revolut Business?

To send any amount of money with Revolut Business, you’ll need to have a few recipient details.

Here’s what you’ll usually need to provide, including details for sending money abroad:

  • The recipient’s name or business name as it appears on their bank account
  • Their bank account number and sort code
  • The type of account (i.e. a business account)
  • The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) - for international transfers
  • The SWIFT/BIC code for their bank - for international transfers.

If you’re sending to an existing Revolut contact, you’ll already have their details saved. So all you need to do is select the person from your contacts list.

To make your payment, simply follow these steps:⁴

  1. Login to your Revolut account
  2. Go to ‘Transfers’
  3. Select ‘Send money’
  4. Select the recipient from the list or click the ‘New’ button to add a new recipient. You may need to verify your identity with a selfie authentication to add a new contact.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up and send your transfer.

You can make both domestic (within the UK) and international transfers using your Revolut Business account.

How long do large transfers take with Revolut Business?

What's the Revolut Business maximum transfer limit?

For domestic (within the UK) transfers, you can send a maximum of £250,000 GBP per payment with your Revolut Business account.¹

For international payments, the limit varies by currency. For example, you can send a maximum of:¹

  • 100,000 EUR to Europe (SEPA payment)

  • 15,000 GBP to Indonesia (IDR)
  • 29,999 BRL to Brazil

Another important thing to know if you’re sending international transfers with Revolut Business is that it has fair usage limits on currency conversion. This is a limit on how much you can send per month (for transfers requiring currency conversion), before an additional fee is charged. It all depends on what business plan you’re on:²

It’s also worth noting that Revolut charges international transfer fees, which vary depending on the destination, currency and amount.

There’s also a 1% fee for exchanging currency outside of market hours,² so you’ll need to bear this in mind when arranging international transfers.

You should also check the Revolut exchange rate before sending your payment.
