As you can see, there’s no specific Western Union limit per day, or a Western Union monthly limit, but limits can vary according to how you want to process your payment, and whether or not you’ve verified your account.

Western Union does not specify what documents may be needed for verification if you send or receive more than 15,000 EUR/year. You’ll be notified if additional information is needed - this could include proof of the source of the money, or information about who you are sending to or receiving from, for example.

Can you increase the Western Union transfer limits?

To send the highest possible amount online with Western Union you need to verify your identity, and you can do this online or in person. Once your account is verified, you can send up to 5,000 EUR per online transfer.⁴

You can verify your account with any of the following documents:

  • Passport
  • EU/EEA ID
  • IE driving license

You’ll be prompted to upload this document if you ever initiate a transfer of 1,000 EUR or more online, or if you hit the cumulative 3 day amount over several payments. You’ll see a prompt to complete your profile and will need to upload an image of your ID document, and in some cases your card details.

It’ll then take about 30 minutes for the Western Union team to complete verification - you can also verify your account with a video call, but this can take several hours to be processed.

If you’re sending a payment in person at an agent location you’ll always be asked to provide one of the acceptable ID documents to initiate your payment.
