XE has been helping people send money around the world for more than 30 years. But how much can you send at once?
This article covers what you need to know about XE money transfer limits, including XE’s minimum wire transfer amount.
We'll also introduce Wise — your international money transfer alternative. Use Wise to send stress-free transfers to over 140 countries - all at the standard mid-market exchange rate.

Unless you’re moving very large amounts of money or paying with a credit or debit card, it’s unlikely that you’ll run up against your XE money transfer limit.
To break down XE’s transfer limits, we have to start with the different ways you can use XE to send money. XE offers money transfers with ACH, wire transfer, and debit and credit cards.
Here’s a look at how the XE transfer limits vary for each method:
Payment type | XE transfer limit¹ |
---|---|
Single online transfer (ACH or wire transfer) | 535,000 USD (or equivalent in sending currency) |
Wire transfer | 3,000 USD minimum |
Debit² or credit card³ | 5 transfers and 3,000 USD per day |
The XE transfer limit for a single online transfer is 535,000 USD or the equivalent in the currency that you’re sending. Other similarly large limits apply in other countries.
Note that this XE transfer limit doesn’t apply per day but per transfer. So if you need to send more than 535,000 USD, you can pay the rest in another installment immediately after.
To send a wire transfer in the US with XE, you also have to send at least 3,000 USD. For smaller amounts, you can still use ACH, which is also usually cheaper.
Using a credit or debit card comes with a more restrictive XE daily transfer limit. But because credit and debit cards are also expensive methods for moving large sums of money, it’s best to avoid them unless you’re in an extreme rush.
💡 When sending money with XE, watch out for your bank’s transfer limits. They are probably different (and lower) than XE money transfer limits, making a large transfer fine for XE but too high for your bank.
If you’re using XE to send money abroad from the US, your transfer limits are the same as they are for domestic transfers — 535,000 USD (or equivalent in sending currency). For example, the XE money transfer limit to India is 535,000 USD or the equivalent amount in INR.
Here’s a look at the XE transfer limits for a few countries and regions:
Country or region | XE transfer limit¹ |
---|---|
US | 535,000 USD |
UK | 350,000 GBP |
EU | 350,000 EUR |
Canada | 560,000 CAD |
Australia | 750,000 AUD |
New Zealand | 750,000 NZD |
Keep in mind that when you’re sending an international wire transfer through XE, the XE limits and fees are not the only ones that count. The bank holding the money you want to send likely has its own limits that you’ll want to check before arranging a large XE money transfer.

Since XE transfer limits vary by currency, it’s best to check with XE if you’re sending from a country that’s not the US.

XE transfer fees will depend on the method you choose, the amount, the currency, and the destination.⁵ While credit cards and debit cards are the fastest and most expensive methods for moving money, ACH and bank transfers are slower but more affordable.
XE will tell you that some transfers come with no fee. But you’re always paying a fee that shows up in the way that XE calculates your exchange rate. By taking a markup on the mid-market exchange rate (the ratio that appears on sources like Google), XE makes money on the transaction.
You should also remember that the banks involved in your transfer (including intermediaries they work with) may charge fees separately from XE.
Moving large quantities of money abroad can be stressful. But with the right support, there’s nothing to worry about.
The best way to avoid mistakes and save money is to plan ahead. The most affordable money transfer methods can take a few days, but if you have the time to spare, you can always find the cheapest option.
At 535,000 USD per online transfer, XE transfer limits are unlikely to stop you from sending the amount of money that you need to send.
However, XE charges fees to send money based on the method and amount you’re sending. It also charges a markup on its exchange rate.
With Wise, you can send secure and trackable large amount transfers to 140+ countries worldwide with transparent fees and the fair mid-market exchange rate.
