TD Bank is one of the largest banks in the US, offering checking accounts, savings accounts, CDs, credit cards, and personal loans to customers.¹ It also lets you send and receive money to and from other bank accounts.
If you're planning to make a transfer, you're probably wondering about TD Bank's transfer limits. The short answer is that there are daily and monthly limits that vary depending on how you're sending money. Here's everything you need to know.
We'll also introduce Wise — your international money transfer alternative. Use Wise to send stress-free transfers to over 140 countries - all at the standard mid-market exchange rate.

TD Bank sets limits on how much money you can send or receive through their services. You have a few options for transferring money, including external transfers (account-to-account transfers with other banks) and Zelle® payments.
You can also send domestic and international wires.
Here are the TD Bank transfer limits for how much you can send:²
Transfer type | Delivery option | Daily limit | Monthly limit |
---|---|---|---|
External transfer | 3 business days | 3,000 USD | 5,000 USD |
External transfer | Next business day | 2,500 USD | 4,000 USD |
Zelle® | Up to 3 business days | 2,500 USD | 10,000 USD |
Zelle® | Within minutes | 1,000 USD | 5,000 USD |
Here's how much you can receive:²
Transfer type | Delivery option | Daily limit | Monthly limit |
---|---|---|---|
External transfer | 3 business days | 10,000 USD | 20,000 USD |
External transfer | Next business day | 7,500 USD | 15,000 USD |
Zelle® | Up to 3 business days | 100,000 USD | 100,000 USD |
The TD Bank Zelle® transfer limit is much higher for incoming payments compared to outgoing ones, which makes sense since receiving money poses less risk to the bank.
However, the sending bank might have its restrictions in place. The fact that TD Bank can accept up to 100,000 USD daily through Zelle® doesn't mean that you can necessarily send that much.
For external transfers, TD Bank also imposes a 20,000 USD monthly maximum limit for inbound and outbound transfers combined. This means your total sending and receiving activity can’t exceed 20,000 USD per month.²
Also, TD Bank reserves the right to adjust these limits at any time. In other words, while the limits outlined above are the general TD Bank transfer limits, your actual limits may be lower depending on your account history and other factors they may consider.²
For wire transfers, both domestic and international, the TD Bank wire transfer limit may be higher than these standard transfer limits. They don’t publish them on their website, so you’d have to get in touch with them and ask.
With Wise, you can send up to 1,000,000 USD per wire transaction to 140+ countries, with the mid-market exchange rate and low, transparent fees. |

TD Bank offers international wire transfers, but the process isn't very convenient.
You can't send international wires online or over the phone. Instead, you have to schedule an appointment and visit a branch in person.³
TD Bank also doesn't publish their limits for international wire transfers on their website. The limits might be the same as their standard external transfer limits, or they could be higher or lower. Typically, wires have high transfer limits.
Keep in mind that TD Bank only sends wires to about 60 countries.³ If you need to send money somewhere that's not on their list, you'll have to find another service like Wise.
A smart option if you’re sending money overseas: meet Wise.
With Wise, you can send up to 1,000,000 USD per wire transaction to 140+ countries, with the mid-market exchange rate and low, transparent fees. |

It's possible that your personal TD Bank transfer limits are different from the standard limits you can see above. TD Bank can lower your limits at any time based on your account activity or other factors that they don't publicly disclose.
To see your TD Bank transfer limits, log in to your TD Bank online account or mobile app.
Look for the information icon (usually an "i" in a circle) next to the amount box when you're setting up an external transfer or using Send Money with Zelle®. Click on that icon to see your current transfer limits.²
You might be able to get higher limits if you qualify for TD Private Client Group. This is TD Bank's premium banking service for wealthy customers.
To qualify, you need either 750,000 USD in liquid assets or 3,000,000 USD in total net worth (not counting your primary home).²
If you're enrolled in TD Private Client Group, your limits increase to the following amounts:²
Transfer type | Delivery option | Daily limit | Monthly limit |
---|---|---|---|
Zelle® | Up to 3 business days | 5,000 USD | 30,000 USD |
Zelle® | Within minutes | 5,000 USD | 30,000 USD |
You also may also be able to send more with TD Bank wires, but they don’t publish their wire transfer limits on their website.
External transfers between TD Bank and other US banks are free, regardless of whether you choose 3-day or next-day delivery. Zelle® payments are also typically free for both sending and receiving money.⁴
However, TD Bank charges fees for wire transfers:
Wire transfer type | Fee⁴ |
---|---|
Incoming wire (domestic & international) | 15 USD |
Outgoing wire (domestic) | 30 USD |
Outgoing wire (international) | 50 USD |
In addition to these transfer fees, TD Bank also makes a profit on international transfers through foreign currency exchange rate markups.³ When you send money to another country, TD Bank converts your USD at a rate that's less favorable than the mid-market rate.
This markup can feel "hidden" since it's not advertised as a fee, and it can add a pretty big cost to your transfer, especially for larger amounts.
Sending large amounts of money can get complicated, whether domestically or internationally. Before confirming your transfer, consider these important things:
In other words, TD Bank is one option for sending money, but it comes with restrictive limits and costly currency exchange rate markups that can make large transfers expensive.
Plus, for international wires, you have to make an appointment and do it in person, which can be inconvenient if you have a busy schedule or live far away from a TD Bank branch.
With Wise, you can send secure and trackable large amount transfers to 140+ countries worldwide with transparent fees and the fair mid-market exchange rate.
