Marcus, the online banking service by Goldman Sachs, offers savings accounts, CDs, and other deposit products to banking customers in the US.
To withdraw or deposit money into your Marcus accounts, you need to initiate a transfer. But what are the transfer limits? What transfer services are available? And how long do they usually take?
Marcus transfer limits depend on whether you are sending money by ACH or wire transfer, and whether it’s done online or by phone. Let’s dive in.
🚨 Marcus customers are unable to transfer money internationally.¹ If you need to send funds overseas, use Wise to send stress-free international transfers — all at the standard mid-market exchange rate.
Your Marcus transfer limits depend on how you're sending money.
You'll have limits on the amount you can send via wire transfer or ACH (Automated Clearing House). However, there are no limits on the amount of money you can receive into your Marcus account.
Here’s a full look at the Marcus transfer limits by type:
Transfer type | Marcus Transfer Limits¹ |
---|---|
ACH payment | 125,000 USD per transfer |
Domestic wire transfer (online) | 50,000 USD per statement period |
Domestic wire transfer (by phone) | No limit |
🚨 International wire transfers are unavailable with Marcus.
With Wise, you can send up to 1,000,000 USD per wire transaction to 140+ countries, with the mid-market exchange rate and low, transparent fees. |

You can only send an outgoing Marcus wire transfer or ACH to an account that you own.¹ These accounts can be with an external bank, but the account has to be in your name.
As an alternative method, you can also request to send a check from Marcus. They will make it out to the recipient you specify and send the check to the address on your account.² However, it’s a more complicated transfer process.
In addition to transfer limits, there is a total limit on the amount that account holders can keep in their Marcus savings accounts.
The maximum deposit limit for all accounts is 3 million USD per person, and the deposit limit per account is 1 million USD.¹
For instance, since there’s no transfer limit for incoming wire transfers, someone can wire 1 million USD to your Marcus account all in one transfer. But that would be the most that you would be allowed to keep in that account.
There are no monthly limits for sending a wire transfer with Marcus if you make the transfer over the phone or send the money via ACH.
If you’re sending money online, the transfer limit per month is 50,000 USD.¹
This limit applies to the statement period, not the calendar month. To understand when your Marcus transfer limit per month turns over, double-check the date on your statements.
Marcus does not offer international wire transfers.
To send money from your Marcus account overseas, you’ll have to transfer funds to another US bank account via ACH, check, or wire transfer. Then you can choose a service for sending money abroad that makes the most sense for you.
A smart option if you’re sending money overseas: meet Wise.

*Transaction speed claimed depends on funds availability, approval by Wise’s proprietary verification system and systems availability of our partners’ banking system, and may not be available for all transactions.
You can verify your transfer limits on the Marcus app or by calling Marcus’ customer service line.
When you initiate a transfer with Marcus, the company will also notify you of any limits that apply.²
The most effective way to increase your transfer limits with Marcus is to initiate transfers over the phone. This is because phone transfers do not have daily or monthly limits.¹
Marcus doesn’t charge any fees for wire transfers or ACH transfers. But the external bank that’s receiving your transfers might.
To find out if a third party or external bank is going to charge a fee, search for incoming wire transfer fees for the account that’s receiving the funds from your Marcus account.
ACH payments are usually free to send and receive at most banks. Even though they take slightly longer, they’re often the cheapest option.
Below are estimates of Marcus transfer times based on the type of transfer and time of day the transfer is initiated.
Transfer type | Marcus Transfer Time (Estimate)¹ |
---|---|
Send or receive an ACH payment | Usually 1-3 business days when requested by 6pm ET |
Send or receive a domestic wire transfer (online) | Usually within 1 hour when requested before 4pm ET |
Send a domestic wire transfer (by phone) | Usually 1-3 business days when requested before 4pm ET |
You may need to link your external bank account manually before you request your transfer. This could take some extra time, but you’ll only have to do it once.
If you have a large amount of money that you’re moving in or out of your Marcus account, it’s smart to be cautious.
Before you send your transfer, contact your bank or money transfer service. That way you’ll have someone to help you through the process, and it can help prevent your account from being flagged for unusual activity.
It’s also essential to plan ahead. Rushing can lead to mistakes, so give yourself ample time to complete the transfer without being under a tight deadline.
Saving with Marcus gives you access to CDs and other financial products that can help your money grow.
But Marcus accounts can only send or receive funds from US bank accounts. So if your savings come from any country other than the US, it’s probably not the best option.
With Wise, you can send secure and trackable large amount transfers to 140+ countries worldwide with transparent fees and the fair mid-market exchange rate.
