Citibank transfer limits overview

Citibank’s primary option for sending money is inter-institutional transfers.¹ This free service is a good fit if you want to transfer money to another domestic account.

The Citibank transfer limit varies depending on if it’s an inbound or outbound transfer and whether you have a tenured account. You have a tenured account if one or more accounts have been open for at least 91 days

Here’s a look at the Citibank transfer limits per day and per month¹:

Tenured accountUntenured account
Inbound daily limit100,000 USD10,000 USD
Outbound daily limit25,000 USD10,000 USD
Inbound monthly limit100,000 USD15,000 USD
Outbound monthly limit50,000 USD15,000 USD

Citibank offers same-day ACH transfers if the instructions are received by 12:30 pm (ET) and next-day ACH transfers if the request is received after the cutoff. The transfers are only processed on business days.

What is Citibank’s daily transfer limit?

The daily outbound transfer limit is 25,000 USD for tenured accounts and 10,000 USD for untenured accounts. That’s much higher than many institutions.

However, the monthly cap isn’t much higher than the daily cap. If you need to send sizable recurring payments throughout the month, you’ll need to explore other options, such as wire transfers.

With Wise, you can send up to 1,000,000 USD per wire transaction to 140+ countries, with the mid-market exchange rate and low, transparent fees.

How can you check your Citibank transfer limits?

Simply log in to your Citibank account online or on the Citi Mobile® app and go to the transfer page. Your daily and weekly limits will be visible.

You should also be able to see if you’ve reached your limit. If you’re capped out, you’ll need to send money using another method or wait for your cap to reset.

Can you increase your transfer limits at Citibank?

Yes, there are a few ways to increase your transfer limits, depending on how you’re sending money and what type of account you have.

The easiest way to up your transfer limit is to wait for your Citibank account to become tenured (if it isn’t already). Tenured accounts are subject to the higher transfer limits outlined above.

If you’re sending money internationally with Global Transfers, you can upgrade to a higher account tier. Higher tiers come with higher daily and weekly limits.

If your account is already tenured and upgrading isn’t an option, consider sending a wire. While there’s no Citibank wire transfer limit, you should be mindful of the 10,000 USD threshold for IRS reporting.

What are Citibank’s transfer fees and charges?

Citibank doesn’t charge any fees for account-to-account domestic transactions or Zelle transactions. You won’t pay any fees if you send money using the Global Transfer program, either.

However, there are fees for incoming and outgoing wire transfers, which are as follows³:

Transfer typeFee
Incoming domestic and international wire transfers15 USD
Outgoing domestic wire transfers25 USD
Outgoing international wire transfers35 USD

Now that you know how to wire money with Citibank and how to send money with Zelle, you have more options for making payments. Before you choose, however, make sure to compare other methods so you can reduce your fees and get cash where you need it to go.

With Wise, you can send secure and trackable large amount transfers to 140+ countries worldwide with transparent fees and the fair mid-market exchange rate.
