Charles Schwab transfer limits overview

Charles Schwab has a daily transfer limit of 100,000 USD, which applies to both inbound and outbound transfers.¹

You can link external accounts to your Charles Schwab account, which are typically approved in a couple of business days. Once approved, you can start transferring money up to the cap.

The primary option for moving money is Schwab MoneyLink®.² This free service allows you to electronically transfer money between external accounts and your Schwab brokerage accounts. The transfers are typically processed on the same day or within 1–2 business days.²

Additionally, MoneyLink gives you lots of options for setting up recurring transfers, including weekly or monthly transfers. Simply schedule your transaction intervals and enter your desired amount. The minimum is 0.01 USD.²

If you don’t have MoneyLink, you can apply online. Charles Schwab typically approves requests within 2–3 business days.² If you apply via mail, it may take 1–2 weeks for your MoneyLink account to be activated.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll need to add an eligible domestic bank account. To enroll through the mobile app, simply²:

  • log in to your account and select “Move Money”
  • select “Transfer Funds”
  • accept the terms and conditions and select “Continue”
  • choose your financial institution and login credentials
  • choose a 2-factor authentication method
  • enter your temporary code
  • confirm your account choices

Once your account is linked, you can begin sending and receiving money using MoneyLink.²

Monylink is only available for use with domestic institutions — international transfers aren’t available with MoneyLink.

Alternatively, you can send a domestic wire transfer. Charles Schwab offers up to 3 free domestic wires per quarter.³

Charles Schwab international transfer limits

You can’t transfer funds internationally using MoneyLink, as that service is only available for domestic accounts. However, you can send money using an international wire transfer.

International wire transfers aren’t subject to Charles Schwab transfer limits. However, if you’re sending more than 10,000 USD, the institution must abide by IRS reporting requirements. This could increase the time it takes to process your transfer request.

To set up an international transfer with Charles Schwab, all you need to do is provide the following information³:

  • Account you want to transfer money from
  • Recipient’s account number
  • SWIFT code for the receiving bank
  • Recipient’s name
  • Recipient’s address and country
  • Amount and date of the transfer

Once you’ve gathered the necessary information, select “Move Money” within your account. Next, select “Send Wire,” put in the required information, and follow the on-screen prompts.

Can you increase your transfer limits at Charles Schwab?

No, you can’t increase the cap on your Charles Schwab account. If you have an account that’s eligible for transfers, you’ll be subject to the institution’s 100,000 USD daily cap. If you need to move more than 100,000 USD, you’ll need to split it into separate transactions.

Since there are no Charles Schwab international wire transfer limits, you don’t have to worry about increasing your cap. Just send what you need.

Before you set up a transfer, make sure to check the current mid-market exchange rates. You should also verify what fees the receiving institution charges, as these could significantly impact the cost of your transaction.

With Wise, you can send up to 1,000,000 USD per wire transaction to 140+ countries, with the mid-market exchange rate and low, transparent fees.
