What is the Revolut Metal Card?

The Revolut Metal Card is the linked debit card for customers with a Revolut Metal account plan.

Revolut Metal is the highest tier of the Revolut personal plan² in Singapore, with ongoing fees in exchange for lifestyle perks, discounts, and benefits - and higher no-fee transaction limits compared to other plans.

How much is a Revolut Metal card a year? To decide if Metal is right for you, one important consideration is cost. The Revolut Metal annual fee is 219 SGD, or over 260 SGD if you pay monthly³. We’ll look at the benefits that buy you next.

Revolut Metal Card: features and benefits

The benefits you get with Revolut Metal cover travel, lifestyle, and investment products, as well as partner discounts and extra features. Here are some of the key perks you get with the Revolut Metal plan and card⁴:

  • Personalised metal card for spending and withdrawls
  • Free express card delivery
  • 1.5% Revolut Metal Card cashback when you spend
  • Unlimited currency exchange with the Revolut rate
  • No Revolut fee for ATM withdrawals up to 1,050 SGD a month

  • Up to 5 accounts for children, linked to your main account
  • Investment and saving benefits

Is Revolut Metal worth it in Singapore?

Whether or not Revolut Metal is worth it for you will depend on how you use your account.

When you sign up, you’ll pay a total annual fee of at least 219 SGD - choosing to pay monthly will mean paying over 260 SGD a year. It’s important to note that early cancellation might mean you have to repay Revolut for your personalised card - 70 SGD - or pay an administration fee, depending on how long your account has been open. Make sure you’re certain the account is for you before you commit.

Revolut Metal does offer some high-end perks in exchange for this annual cost. If you really use all of the services available to you, they may make it worth signing up.

If you use your card often and benefit from the 1.5% cash back, this could represent a good saving. And if you’re looking for accounts for your children, the five <18 accounts offered can be a handy feature. Travellers to countries that rely on cash might find the high no-fee ATM limits a perk - but it’s important to note that you may still end up paying costs included in the exchange rates used to convert from SGD to the currency you need when you travel.

It’s not all about your money, either. For example, you can get free or discounted use of apps like Class Pass and Freeletics to stay in shape, Tinder Gold to line up your next date, and FT to keep on top of the news. You can also sign up for global insurance to cover you while you travel, and airport lounge discounts and eSIMs to make your trip more comfortable.

So, is it worth it? Revolut Metal might be worth it for you if you can make use of the very broad range of perks and benefits. If not, a free plan with the same core features and mid-market exchange rates - like those from Wise - may be a better match.

Revolut Card vs Wise card: Which should you pick for overseas spending?

The Revolut Metal card does have some nice perks and benefits for travelers and people spending abroad. However, the Wise card can also offer a low-cost alternative when spending overseas, with no monthly fee to worry about.

Wise and Revolut both offer powerful international accounts you can use to hold multiple currencies and spend with a linked debit card. However, how they work is a little different. While Revolut has three different plans to pick from, Wise offers the same great benefits to all customers, with no ongoing fees to pay.

Revolut uses its own exchange rate for currency conversion. So while there are no extra conversion fees added for Metal cardholders, there may be a charge built into the rate that’s applied. To check this out, you’ll need to compare the Revolut Metal exchange rate against the mid-market rate that you can find on Google.

Wise accounts can hold 40+ currencies and convert between them with the mid-market exchange rate and low fees. This applies when you convert in your account, or if you leave your funds in SGD and let the card automatically convert when you pay.

Revolut Metal can be a good pick for lifestyle benefits like travel insurance and airport lounge access. However, the monthly fees can add up quickly. Compare the costs and benefits you get with Wise to see if it might be a better option for your day-to-day travel spend, with no ongoing costs to pay.
