The answer to this question is yes, you can use your Irish Revolut card in the UK.² It works for cash withdrawals and to make purchases both in-person and online.

On top of this, Revolut offers virtual cards for online or in-person spending through a compatible digital wallet, but keep in mind these cannot be used for ATM cash withdrawals.

Is it possible to open a British pound currency with Revolut?

When you open a Revolut account in Ireland, you'll find that multiple currencies are supported for holding. The good news is GBP is one of these, so setting up a Revolut currency in Pounds is straightforward.³

Can you receive British pounds in the Irish Revolut account?

If you're planning to receive British pounds from a UK based account then Revolut can make it a bit easier because as an Irish account holder you have access to both local GBP and EUR account details. Here’s how to find your local GBP details:

  1. Open the Revolut app and navigate to ‘Home’
  2. Tap on ‘Accounts’
  3. Select GBP as your currency
  4. Look under the current balance and click on ‘Details’

When you're withdrawing cash or spending money in the UK the fees can quickly add up, especially if you’re spending on a daily basis. As such, it’s a good practice to ensure you understand the costs associated with using your card outside of Ireland.

Here are the key fees for using your Revolut card in the UK, along with a comparison to the Wise card for some context.

Revolut exchange rate: How does it work?
