International transfer with Société Générale: rates and fees
Société Générale: Transfer money abroad easily. Discover international transfer fees & procedures for seamless global payments.
With BoursoBank (formerly Boursorama Banque), making an international transfer is now quite simple, as all transactions are carried out online.
However, transferring money abroad, especially when it involves a currency other than the euro, incurs costs. These costs include fees charged by the bank, clearly indicated in its fee schedule, as well as the exchange rate commission.
In this article, discover the conditions and procedures for making a transfer outside the SEPA zone with BoursoBank, as well as the fees charged by this institution.
You will also find an overview of alternatives to traditional banking services, such as Wise.
The SEPA zone includes the 27 countries of the European Union, as well as 9 other European countries and territories.
At BoursoBank, SEPA transfers are advertised as free.¹
The fees charged by BoursoBank are as follows for a transfer made in a currency other than the euro:¹
Issuance fees | Exchange commission | Exchange rate |
---|---|---|
Free | Free | BoursoBank rate displayed upon transaction validation (including currency risk coverage) |
With an OUR transfer, all fees are the sender's responsibility. BoursoBank does not apply any additional costs.
The free transaction applies only to BoursoBank. Fees may be applied by the receiving bank, especially what are called intermediary fees (SWIFT system).
In fact, when transferring money, most intermediary banks generally charge commissions and, of course, a margin on the exchange rate. These are called hidden fees.
Receiving a transfer issued in a currency other than the euro will cost you 0.1% of the amount, with a minimum of €20. Please note that the exchange margin on transfers is 1% of the applied exchange rate, i.e., the rates as they appear at the fixing (exchange rate setting) at 9:00 a.m. French time.¹
As BoursoBank is an online bank, all transactions are carried out online from your online account. To make a transfer:
Simply log in to your online account.
Then click on the "BoursoBank" and "My Accounts" tabs.
Select the account to be debited and click on "Transfer."
Enter the recipient's bank details and the amount to be transferred.
You can cancel the transfer as long as its status is "Pending." Once it is "Completed," it’s too late.
There is no limit for SEPA transfers at BoursoBank, except for instant transfers, which are limited to €5,000 per day (the limit drops to €500 if the beneficiary's bank details were added recently).²
For other international transfers, we recommend contacting your bank directly.
To make a transfer, you must have:
The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) code.
The recipient's BIC (Bank Identifier Code).
These two codes identify the account number and the bank.
You must also provide the recipient's identity, along with the amount and currency of the transfer.
For a reverse transaction, for which you are the beneficiary, the sender must have the same information:
Your identity
The BIC code
The IBAN code of your bank account.
From the moment the transfer order is given, the time depends on the country of destination or origin.
A transfer within the SEPA zone arrives in the beneficiary's account or your account within 1 to 3 business days.³
For other countries, the transfer time is longer and depends on the number of intermediary institutions involved. BoursoBank advisors, available by chat, email, or phone, can provide you with more information.
To save on fees, you can choose an alternative solution like Wise. This service allows you to make international transfers to 140+ countries, using the mid-market rate without any hidden markup and with transparent pricing.
